The story of five missionaries, an indigenous tribe and the plans of a good God

This is an inspiring story of adventure, courage, love of the gospel, and death... for the glory of God, the salvation of a people, and the encouragement of the church.

In February 1952, five missionaries faced the challenge of bringing the gospel to the indigenous tribes of the jungles of eastern Ecuador. Their main objective was the Auca, the tribe most reluctant to contact the missionaries due to a history of violence and oppression by the white invader. Would it be possible to bring a message of forgiveness and reconciliation to such a people? The missionaries end up being murdered by the indigenous people, raising questions that are still debated today.

The narrative, written by Elisabeth Elliot, wife of one of the murdered missionaries, is a complete historical record of the events, based on detailed notes from the diaries of its protagonists and full of photographs. It has become a classic about missions “to the ends of the world.” However, a deeper look shows its relevance for any servant who is serious about unconditional obedience to God's call in whatever context he finds himself.

In these times when people's higher purpose often seems to be limited to a comfortable Christianity, this story makes us reflect on the very meaning of life and death, of genuine faith and unrestricted surrender to the designs of God.
