“…but take heart, I have overcome the world” John16:33

What would you give to spend an afternoon with Jesus, hearing him teach and listening to him pray? This is what we find in the farewell address of John 13–17. As the shadow of the cross loomed, Christ shared His final hours with the disciples to prepare them for His death, calm their troubled hearts, and intercede for them before the Father.

In Lessons from the Upper Room , Dr. Sinclair Ferguson takes us into these intimate hours of the night Jesus was betrayed. This vivid image of Christ's ministry, from the washing of the disciples' feet to the prayer of the High Priest, shows us the heart of Jesus. Discover His deepest desires for His people and delight in the suffering Savior who has overcome the world.

recommendations

“Few passages of Scripture are as influential as Jesus' farewell sermon found in the Gospel of John, but its message eludes us. Sinclair Ferguson helps us put the pieces of the puzzle into place in light of the entire Bible. Take a seat and listen as Ferguson helps us understand what we hear about Jesus speaking to His disciples and praying to His Father. This book describes the drama and meaning of Jesus' last night before the cross, and explains in detail why it is good news for us today. Here we find Ferguson writing as he often does: This book is a deep reading of the biblical text in light of the entire Bible, with a consummate focus on our Savior and His work. Whether you are familiar with this passage or have never read it, you will find this book encouraging, edifying, and enlightening. Read them; “You’ll be glad you did!”

—Dr. Brandon D. Crowe, Professor of New Testament, Westminster Theological Seminary Philadelphia
